WE ARE ALL IMPORTANT

Times have changed! We are not connected as we once were and I feel that it has hit us, the seniors, probably more than any other group. We were in some cases more isolated than other groups. Our families have left to build their own lives. We become empty nesters. Some of us end up in seniors’ homes. Others of us live alone hoping for a visit from someone, our children or our friends.

DO YOU AGREE?

As we are all aware, as we get older we start to lose some of our agility. We can get a little slower. We can become a little less attentive and we do have a few more aches and pains. As Art Linkletter said, “If you’re over 60 and you wake up without a pain, you are dead.” However, there are a lot of things that we also gain. We all tend to have lied a lot of life and learned from our experiences. Our brain, they say, does not deteriorate like some of our other muscles unless we abuse it with drugs and alcohol or contract some disease that effects us negatively. Kindness, one word that has a lot of meaning. Kindness or being kind is becoming less and less a way of life in our world. In the 50s, 60s and 70s, it was more a way of life and something that our parents drummed into us at a very early age.

Ageism, as we see it in the media, is common. Most commercials are about young people having fun, partying, enjoying each other. Commercials about older people depict things about how to keep your dentures in, reverse mortgages and health care.
